ABOUT THE PERSON BEHIND THE NAME

Cheryl O'Brien

Cheryl resides just outside of Sydney in NSW. Her home in the rolling foothills of the beautiful Blue Mountains is a short few miles from the gorgeous Hawkesbury River.

Living an hour from a mountain top, a beach and within a stones throw of a river, between two extraordinary national parks, The Blue Mountains National Park and Wollemi National Park, The home of some very prehistoric trees, certainly suits her love of nature.

Early mornings in the Spiryl Creations household are filled with the tinkling sounds of local birds, raucous laughter of the kookaburras in the nearby gum trees and the rattle and shake of three teenagers getting ready for school.

Once the birds have settled, the children have left for school and the kookaburras have quietened, Cheryl can settle in for some serious, and not so serious work!

Working from home is both challenging and rewarding. Sometimes, things hum along nicely with Cheryl working full steam ahead and then come the times when the quiet house and the chance to sit and chat over coffee is too strong and work slides to the side!

The Yahoo writers groups Cheryl moderates offers a great deal of motivation and encouragement to her and all the members.

A little about Me

Cheryl has travelled extensively throughout Australia.

Cheryl has visited Mt Isa, Blackall, Charleville, Camooweal and Brisbane in Queensland; Jabiru, Katherine, Mararanka, Darwin and Alice Springs in the Northern Territory; Mintabie, Port Pirie, Adelaide and Whyalla in South Australia; Sydney, Wollongong, Wagga Wagga, Dunedoo, Orange, Broken Hill and most places in New South Wales.

After being 'extracted' from home at the grand old age of 13, Cheryl took to the bush and worked in a dairy, building barb wire fences on a cattle station, jillaroo, cook, governess, bookkeeper, youth worker, fruit picker, and factory hand in a rubber extrusion plant.

With the thought: "They can take away my education but they can't take my learning." Cheryl scrounged, borrowed, and bought many books to teach herself in her travels. She learnt everything from basic algebra to creative writing from second hand text books under her own steam.

Becoming a single parent at sixteen, Cheryl started a new, challenging and sometimes very painful journey. Now at 38 and a single parent again, Cheryl has made many remarkable ahievements along the way.
